Mr. Speaker, I rise on a point of order. The member for Lanark—Frontenac—Kingston, in a red-faced fashion, clearly flipped the bird over to this side, which is another way of saying gave the finger. That is highly unparliamentary and I would ask him to uncategorically withdraw the finger. It is not appropriate. He should apologize to all parliamentarians.

Le député de Lanark—Frontenac—Kingston, dans un élan de colère, a clairement fait un doigt d'honneur en direction de ce côté-ci de la Chambre. C'est évidemment un comportement non parlementaire, et je lui demanderais de retirer son geste de façon catégorique. Ce n'est pas approprié. Il devrait présenter des excuses à tous les parlementaires.
Mr. Speaker, my point of order was with respect to the member for Lanark—Frontenac—Kingston, who, in a very angered, red-faced manner, flipped the bird to the government. That is highly inappropriate. The member knows that and he should uncategorically apologize for the manner in which he expressed himself. That is what we are asking him to do.

Why is the government destroying the Canadian Wheat Board and why will prairie farmers not be allowed a plebiscite vote?

Mr. Speaker, skip the quote and have the plebiscite. That is what the farmers in the Prairies want to see. The government has demonstrated that it does not care what the prairie farmer has to say, as the Prime Minister himself has decided to get rid of the Canadian Wheat Board. At what cost? Producer car-loading rights will be destroyed, the Port of Churchill will be devastated, hundreds of good-quality jobs will be lost in Winnipeg. Why is the government destroying the Canadian Wheat Board and tell us why the farmers will not be allowed to have a vote? Why no plebiscite for prairie farmers?
Translation: Monsieur le Président, laissons faire ce qu'en disent les autres et tenons plutôt un plébiscite. C'est ce que veulent les agriculteurs des Prairies. Le gouvernement a fait la preuve qu’il n’a rien à faire des opinions des agriculteurs des Prairies, puisque le premier ministre a lui-même décidé de se débarrasser de la Commission canadienne du blé. À quel coût? Les droits des producteurs relatifs aux chargements n’existeront plus, le port de Churchill sera anéanti et des centaines de bons emplois disparaîtront à Winnipeg. Pourquoi le gouvernement détruit-il la Commission canadienne du blé en nous disant que les agriculteurs n’auront pas le droit de voter sur la question? Pourquoi n’y aura-t-il pas de plébiscite pour les agriculteurs des Prairies?
